DOUBLE CHOCOLATE PUFFED WHEAT SQUARES
These SUPER chocolatey, chewy & gooey puffed wheat squares are just the way I love my favorite childhood treats. They aren’t your run of the mill, crunchy and cheap on chocolate ones found too often out in the world. I don’t make them often as I am likely to hoard and eat the entire pan myself.
INGREDIENTS
- ⅔ cup butter
- 3/4 cup corn syrup
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2/3 cup cocoa, heaping if you like it very chocolatey
- 1/3 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- 8 cups puffed wheat cereal
DIRECTIONS
- Grease or line with parchment paper, a 9x13 inch baking pan
- Add the butter, corn syrup, chocolate chips, brown sugar and cocoa in a large pot over low-medium heat.
- Melt everything together while stirring gently.
- Bring the mixture to a gently boil. Allow to boil for only 1 minute. Remove from heat.
- Stir in the puffed wheat cereal.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and press down. I usually use a metal spatula to do this.
- Allow to set at room temperature for at least an hour. Cut into squares.
